2025 Future Chargers - Winter 1 Session

Welcome to the Future Chargers

This registration session will allow you to provide simple contact information and submit player fees for the Winter I 2025 session of the Future Chargers program.

The Future Chargers Program offers three different levels across various days of the week, all at the Nicholas Sportsplex (Mount Prospect Ice Arena), 1501 Feehanville Drive, Mount Prospect.

  • Learn to Skate (LTS) - Levels 1 & 2
  • Pre-Hockey (PH) - Levels 3 & 4
  • In-House Mite Hockey - Level 5

Details and background about each program and associated program times are below.  All session costs include a 3% credit card processing fee.

 

LEARN TO SKATE (LTS) LEVELS 1 & 2 PROGRAM DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS

The Learn to Skate Program is a series of progressive classes for new skaters, with little to no skating experience (target age 3-7).  At the introductory levels, the primary focus is proper skating technique; students will master appropriate and specific progressive skating skills that will foster a successful transition into the Pre-Hockey and Mite hockey programs. MUST BE AT LEAST 3 YEARS OLD

  • Level 1: Falling & Getting Up; Marching, 2-foot glides, Forward Dip, Backward Wiggles, 2-foot Snowplow Stops, Forward Swizzles
  • Level 2: 1-foot Glides (R/L), Backward Swizzles, Scooter Pushes (R/L), 2-foot jumps, 1-foot Snowplow Stops
  • Equipment Requirements:  Skaters in Levels 1 & 2 should not wear full equipment as it limits a skater's movement.  A helmet is required.  Rentals are available at the Mount Prospect Ice Arena.

LTS Sessions at Mount Prospect Ice Arena (for blackout dates see online calendar):

  • Wednesdays @ 4:10-5:10PM -- October 29 - December 17 (8 classes) -- $290
  • Fridays @ 4:00-5:00PM -- November 14 - December 26 (5 classes) -- $185
  • Saturdays @ 9:10-10:10AM -- November 15 - December 27 (5 classes) -- $185

 

PRE-HOCKEY LEVELS 3 & 4 PROGRAM DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS

The Pre-Hockey Program is a continuation of the Learn to Skate (LTS) Program, in that it reinforces the skating skills learning in Levels 1 and 2 while introducing puck handling, passing and shooting. The target age is 4-8 years old. 

  • Level 3: Forward stroking/strides, forward pumps (L/R), forward crossovers (R/L), backward snowplow stop, 2-foot ski slalom (intro to edgework)
  • Level 4: Backward skating, backward pumps (L/R), backward crossovers (R/L), forward to backward 2-foot turn (CW/CCW), intro to hockey stops
  • Equipment Requirements:  Players should be wearing full pads on the ice (see below). Skates and helmets are available to rent at Mount Prospect Ice Arena.
    • HECC certified hockey helmet with face mask
    • Elbow pads and shin guards
    • Hockey gloves
    • Hockey pants
    • Shoulder pads
    • Hockey skates
    • Hockey stick

FULL ICE IN-HOUSE MITES (LEVEL 5) PROGRAM DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS

The Full Ice In-House Mites Program is a continuation of the Learn to Skate (LTS) and Pre-Hockey Programs, in that it continues reinforce and further the skating and puck skills learned in the Levels 1-4 programs. It introduces structured games exposing players to game concepts like spacing and timing. It also shows players how the skating and puck skills learned fit into game situations. The target age is 5-8 years old. 

This program includes two ice-sessions each week (1 Saturday and 1 Sunday). Saturday will be a skills-based practice similar to what the Jr. Chargers full-ice Mite travel teams have during their weekly skills practice. Sunday is setup as half-ice or cross-ice games in line with the USA Hockey ADM (American Development Model) allowing players to have constant movement and frequent puck touches.

  • Equipment Requirements:  Players should be wearing full pads on the ice (see below). Skates and helmets are available to rent at Mount Prospect Ice Arena.

Saturday & Sunday -- November 15 - December 28 (10 classes) -- $350

  • Saturdays @ 10:20 - 11:20AM (5 Skills)
  • Sundays @ 2:30 - 3:30PM (5 Games)
